Sketchers I Follow on Instagram

I like a certain style of sketches with watercolor I see. It’s loose and fun. Light and not formal reflecting realistic portrayal of the scene or building. And city scenes, buildings, structures, the heart of urban environments are what attract me to sketching.

The people whose sketches I particularly like and whose style I’d like to mimic are Albert Kiefer - @housesketcher, Liz Steel - @lizsteelart, David Steeden - @davidsteedenart, Valerie Orst - @valerie_orst, Hesam Hasanpour - @hesam_hasanpour1982, Robert Luger - @157_black, and @pottpinsel, whose actual name I cant find. The sketch at the top of this article is one of my own attempts at this style. It’s of a chapel here in Lynchburg.

At the other end of the “detail” spectrum is Stephen Travers (@stephentraversart), whose sketches are sketches of locations and buildings with incredible detail. He works in pencil then pen mostly but will, occasionally, use watercolor on his sketches. I’m in awe of the detail in his drawings though I still strive to match the looser sketchers listed above. I encourage you to check out all of these artists on Instagram.
