Using My Coroplast Drawing Board on a Table

Using My Coroplast Drawing Board on a Table

In a recent post, I described my experience in the first meeting of a watercolor class I’m taking. I mentioned how most of the other students had a table easel setup of some sort. I, on the other hand, just brought my bag with my drawing and painting tools as I would were I going out on an urban sketching quest. Well, though I have a nice table-top easel that is quite portable, I decided to show these folks how an urban sketcher works.

For class number two, I added my Coroplast drawing board and a small Gorillapod tripod to my bag. When I got to class, I unfolded the Coroplast sheet, attached my DIY board strip with tripod attachment, and screwed in the Gorillapod. I placed that on the table in front of me, just as the others had done with their easels. I placed my metal palette on the magnetic tape strip on my drawing board and clamped on my sketchbook. Since the classroom has plenty of plastic containers for water, I decided to use one of them, but everything else came from my bag.

This setup worked very well, as I was sure it would. Next week I may bring a regular tripod and attach the Coroplast as I do on the street! What will be their reaction, I wonder?
