Urban Sketching in Our Home

Urban Sketching in Our Home

I’ve not been sketching everyday, at least, not on paper. I have done some random sketches on my 12.9 iPad Pro using the Tayasui Sketches Pro app, which I’m really liking, but that’s not paper. So this morning I set up my drawing paraphernalia on our dining room table, grabbed my Lamy Safari fountain pen filled with Carbon Platinum black ink, and drew a cupboard in the dining room where we keep a varied collection of after dinner drinks. I don’t usually go right to pen but I’ve found that when I do, I tend to sketch more loosely. That didn’t happen this time but I’m, nonetheless, happy with the resulting sketch.

Another reason I chose this subject is because I see so many sketches by people where there’s lots of detail in the sketch. I wanted to tackle something like that though there’s still not an incredible amount of detail even in this one. The more difficult task, it turns out, was coming up with a variety of colors to paint the bottles and their caps!

Well, on a day when it’s just to go outside to sketch, sitting in our warm dining room and doing this sketch scratched a sketching itch I had.
