Creating the Shot. Learning About Street Photography.

Sometimes you get lucky and press the shutter button just at the right time. And this results in a great composition within your frame. However, that doesn't happen that often. I'm new to street photography having only tried it at last year's Out of Chicago photography conference. And I don't practice it enough. Occasionally when we are in Kiawah Island, SC, and go into Charleston I will leave the shoppers in my family and walk around the streets shooting images. I usually depend on that lucky happenstance for interesting shots. However, at this year's conference I participated in five different Photowalks in the streets of Chicago in the area of the University Center and that experience has changed my approach to shooting in the street.

Out of Chicago: Finally Tried "Live Composite!""

I had never used my Olympus OM-D E-M1's Live Composite feature before going to this year’s Out of Chicago photography conference. I made it one of my goals, therefore, to learn how to make a Live Composite image from the master, Mike Boeing, who I knew was going to be at the conference.

Learning comes in many different shapes and sizes. Out of Chicago: Reflections on Carrying One's "Stuff"

I spent this past Friday through Sunday at a photography conference plus a day to get there and yesterday to get home. The Out of Chicago (URL) conference is a wonderful opportunity to learn about photographic techniques and practice them. The latter, perhaps, is what sets this conference apart. Not only do you have the opportunity to learn more about photography-related things in which you're interested, but you also can choose to go out shooting...

Out of Chicago: Travel Delays & Bag Examination

Last Thursday I awoke to a rainy morning but little did I know how much weather was going to impact me today! I made the 75-mile drive from our home in Lynchburg to the Charlottesville, VA Airport in good time but as I approached the airport my phone rang. American Airlines letting me know my 9:25 AM flight had been delayed until 10.

Flexibility in Photography Projects

This past January I launched yet another 365 Day project for 2016. I had the OlympusAir camera and decided doing such a project with the Air would ensure that I used the Air as much as possible. All was going well until I began having functionality issues with my six-month old Air.
