All in Putting it into Practice
Those who know me know I’ve always been a JIC packer, that is, a “just in case” I need it kind of traveler. And, to some extent, I still am. However, on recent trips I’ve gotten better. This is, in part, because of the bag I love to use, the Tenba Cooper Slim 13 Slim.
"The devil is in the details," as the saying goes. And, indeed, it is, as I learned recently. I have most things organized now for when I want to video record an episode in my basement studio for any of my three series.
I love PVC pipe! When you think you need wood, think PVC. I have made many contraptions out of PVC pipe. Some I've designed myself to meet a specific need, like the one I just made, others I've made from someone else's design.
Kallmünz is a quaint little town about a half hour or less north of Regensburg. My first hostess, Petra (my nephews’ cousin), insisted a stop there at the beginning of my trip when I was driving from Regensburg to Amberg. So I did, but I was not impressed, so I drove on. Well, on my return south at the end of my trip, I decided to take another look.
Over the past year to 18 months I have found that I do enjoy shooting what I see when walking around new and familiar cities. “Street Shooting” is not a genre of photography I ever thought I’d be interested in pursuing, but I was wrong! Starting on my own maybe two years ago, I experimented with photographing people surreptitiously while my wife was shopping. When I went to my first Out of Chicago Photo Conference in June 2015, I went on several photowalks specifically to get a feel for what folks got out of street photography.
When I go on a trip for two weeks that involves sightseeing and exploring new areas, I typically shoot 1,600 images or more. I used to use only 4GB memory cards but then began switching to 8GB cards. I subscribe to the "don't put all of your eggs in one basket" philosophy and have always preferred the smaller cards.
Well, I leave on my two-week adventure through Germany the day after tomorrow. Clothes are all organized. Most are ready to go in the suitcase but I’ll do that on Monday before I leave for the airport. I’ve packed my Vanquest SKITCH-12 bag with my camera and audio gear and am taking pretty much what I had listed before...
I'm going to Germany next week. Spending two weeks there and hope to capture some great images. Naturally, before a trip such as this, my mind turns to packing. Clothes and camera gear. It's already turning cooler in Southern Germany (Bavaria, primarily), so clothes I think I have figured out.
